During the visit

The season runs from July through September. Sessions last ninety minutes. The time is confirmed when you book.

Where

Milia, Kinopiastes, Corfu, 49084. Valantis Zervos.

Arrival

Come at the booked time. The experience starts 10 minutes later, so a late arrival does not crowd the beginning.

There is free parking at the place, including for buses.

You can also come on the blue bus from Corfu Town. Take line 5 (Corfu Town–Kinopiastes–Kouramades) and get off at the Milia stop. We are on the narrow road directly to your right.

The group

A basic session runs for 5 to 12 guests. A dance lesson is held for up to 15. Any age can take part.

Costume

Full dressing needs a height of at least 1.50 m, and there are four places in each basic group. Everyone else wears a tsoutsoumida or a tritsa.

Although fans and other cooling equipment are in the place, the dressing procedure can feel hot on very warm days.

The table

Bread, olive oil, olives, salt, feta, and kumquat liqueur. Every tasting is optional, including the liqueur. Water is always there.

Clothes

Light clothes and comfortable shoes are recommended. Have a second T-shirt with you, just in case.

FAQ

Before you write to ask.

Do I need to speak Greek, or to know the dances?

No. You don't need Greek, and you don't need to know the dances or anyone else in the group. The steps are taught for the people in the room.

Is this a Greek party, or a Greek night with food and music?

No. It is neither. It is a hands-on session, closer to a workshop, so you can meet the tradition by taking part. It is not a folklore performance. Traditional music is played at points in the hour, along with a few well-known Greek moments, such as plate smashing.

Do I have to taste the food or the liqueur?

No. Every tasting is optional, including the liqueur. Water is always there.

Can children take part?

Yes. Any age is welcome. Full dressing needs a height of at least 1.50 m.

What should I wear?

Light clothes and comfortable shoes. Bring a second T-shirt, just in case. If you are dressing in the full costume, you do not need anything special underneath. It goes on over your own clothes. Wear socks, ideally short ones, and keep what is under the costume light: a light T-shirt and light shorts are a good choice, so you do not get too hot.

Will I get hot while dressing?

Probably yes. Fans and other cooling are in the place, and we use them as much as we can. That is also why the experience is held late in the evening. Even so, dressing can still feel hot on a very warm day.

Are the clothes clean?

Yes. Every garment that touches the skin, or that gets dirty, including from sweat, is washed thoroughly before every session.

Can I take photos during the session?

Yes. Please respect other guests’ privacy, and leave someone out of a photo if they would rather not be in it. If you would rather not spend the time taking pictures, you can buy the photographs from us.

Can I still dress if four people have already booked it?

No. These are historical clothes that people wore, not party costumes, and we treat them with that care. At most four guests dress in each session. There is not time to dress more. If dressing is what you want, you can book a costume photoshoot, or a private experience.

I have an idea for a private session that may not fit. Can I suggest it?

Yes. Write to us with what you have in mind, and we will do our best to make it work.

How many people are in a session?

5 to 12 for the basic experience, and up to 15 for the dance lesson.

Do you offer a transfer?

Not at the moment. You arrange your own way to the venue. There is free parking, including for buses. You can also take the blue bus from Corfu Town, line 5 (Corfu Town–Kinopiastes–Kouramades), and get off at Milia. A travel agency can bring you as well.
